People who get Influenza A(H1N1) will be treated with anti-viral drugs.
Anti-viral drugs are not a cure, but they may help you to recover if taken within 48 hours of symptoms developing, by:

• Relieving some of the symptoms
• Reducing the length of time you are ill by around one day
• Reducing the potential for serious complications, such as pneumonia.
This country has a good stockpile of anti-viral drugs for patients who need them.

CARING FOR SOMEONE AT HOME
Most people with flu will recover after several days by following the basic steps outlined earlier. If you are at home with flu, or taking care of someone at home, follow these important tips to stop flu spreading:

• The person who has flu should stay in one room with the door closed and if possible with the window open.
• Other family members should try not to spend too much time with the person with flu, and should avoid sharing dishes, books, toys, etc.
• Discourage visits from persons not living in the household. This is important to stop flu from spreading to other people.
• People with flu should cover their mouth when coughing or sneezing and wash their hands with soap and water immediately afterwards.
• Avoid touching the eyes with hands as this also spreads flu virus.
Used tissues should be put by the ill person directly into a bin. Bin bags should be sealed in the room and taken directly outside by the carer for collection with regular rubbish.
Surfaces and items inside the house should be cleaned regularly with normal household cleaners.

The online version is very user-friendly and follows the same format as the textbook. One added bonus is the update feature where all the most recent advances are updated regularly and inserted into the relevant chapters. The CDROM contains a generous number of very well chosen, good quality slides which can be imported for use in presentations.Univadis Medical Portal, June 2008

Confront the alarming dangers of infectious diseases with Dr. Karl Johnson. Join the hunt for the world’s deadliest microbes with men they call the “disease cowboy”. Dr. Karl Johnson, head of the team from the Center for Disease Control that named the Ebola virus, relates the steps involved in isolating and controlling viral and bacterial outbreaks. A forty year veteran of the war on viruses and bacteria, Dr. Johnson cracked the case of Bolivia hemorrhagic fever in the early 60s, but not before he caught it and nearly died. His predictions concerning the challenges of emerging diseases and his insights into the germs that plague our lives are timely and startling.

Lyme disease has become the fastest-growing infectious disease transmitted by ticks (or other vectors) in the United States, but still remains a condition that is frequently misunderstood, overlooked, and misdiagnosed. Written by a leading practitioner of Lyme-aware medicine, this comprehensive guide will reveal to you the facts about this very serious disease – symptoms of which can mimic cardiac, neurological, and rheumatoid conditions – and will tell you what you need to know about the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of Lyme disease.

Review by:	Larry Trivieri “Author, Health on the Edge”

Lyme disease in one of the most pernicious health conditions and is far more pervasive than most people realize. In The Lyme Disease Solution, Dr Singleton has created the best and most comprehensive resource on the subject that I have ever read. This is a “must-read” book that needs to be in the homes of every person who suffers from Lyme and other tick-borne diseases, as well as all people who are experiencing chronic and debilitating syptoms that their doctors aren’t able to help them with. Chances are good that such people may have undiagnosed Lyme disease and this book explains why. More importantly, it also provides you with the information and medical advice you need to restore your health.

As a someone who suffered with undiagnosed Lyme disease for many years and then discovered how to heal himself, it is obvious on every page of this book that Dr. Singleton knows what he is talking about. The medical advice he shares, along with a wealth of self-care solutions, will empower all who read this book to dramatically improve their health over time, just as it has the many chronic Lyme patients that Dr. Singleton sees in his practice.

Moreover, this book is essential reading for anyone suffering from chronic low-grade inflammation (potentially the majority of all Americans due to the standard American diet and other factors), which is now known to be a primary risk factor for a wide variety of diseases, including arthritis, heart disease and cancer. The information Dr. Singleton provides on how to prevent and reverse chronic inflammation, including his proprietary Lyme Inflammation Diet program is by itself well-worth the price of this book.

It is for these reasons that I give The Lyme Disease Solution my highest recommendation.

Have you ever heard the disease called Lyme Disease? The following is the information on Lyme Disease.
——————————————————————

What is Lyme disease? What causes Lyme disease?

Lyme disease is a bacterial illness caused by a bacterium called a “spirochete.” In the United States, the actual name of the bacterium is Borrelia burgdorferi. In Europe, another bacterium, Borrelia afzelii, also causes Lyme disease. Certain ticks found on deer harbor the bacterium in their stomachs. Lyme disease is spread by these ticks when they bite the skin, which permits the bacterium to infect the body. Lyme disease is not contagious from an affected person to someone else. Lyme disease can cause abnormalities in the skin, joints, heart, and nervous system.

What is the history of Lyme disease?

Interestingly, the disease only became apparent in 1975 when mothers of a group of children who lived near each other in Lyme, Connecticut, made researchers aware that their children all were diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis. This unusual grouping of illness that appeared “rheumatoid” eventually led researchers to the identification of the bacterial cause of the children’s condition, what was then called “Lyme disease” in 1982. The number of cases of the disease in an area depends on the amount of ticks in an area and how often the ticks are infected with the bacteria. In certain areas of New York, where Lyme disease is common, over half of the ticks are infected. Lyme disease has been reported most often in the northeastern United States, but it has been reported in all 50 states, as well as China, Europe, Japan, Australia, and the parts of the former Soviet Union. In the United States, it is primarily contracted in the Northeast from the state of Maine to Maryland, in the Midwest in Minnesota and Wisconsin, and in the West in Oregon and Northern California.
————————————————————————-

—————————————————————-
Lyme disease, or borreliosis, is an emerging infectious disease caused by at least three species of bacteria belonging to the genus Borrelia. Borrelia burgdorferi is the predominant cause of Lyme disease in the United States, whereas Borrelia afzelii and Borrelia garinii are implicated in most European cases.

Lyme disease is the most common tick-borne disease in the Northern Hemisphere. Borrelia is transmitted to humans by the bite of infected ticks belonging to certain species of the genus Ixodes (the hard-bodied ‘hard ticks’). Early manifestations of infection may include fever, headache, fatigue, depression, and a characteristic skin rash called erythema migrans. Left untreated, late manifestations involving the joints, heart, and nervous system can occur. In most cases, the infection and its symptoms are eliminated with antibiotics, especially if diagnosis and treatment occur early in the course of illness. Late, delayed, or inadequate treatment can lead to late manifestations of Lyme disease which can be disabling and difficult to treat.

Some Lyme disease patients who have completed a course of antibiotic treatment continue to have symptoms such as severe fatigue, sleep disturbance, and cognitive difficulties. Some groups have argued that “chronic” Lyme disease is responsible for a range of medically unexplained symptoms beyond the objectively recognized manifestations of late Lyme disease, and that additional, long-term antibiotic treatment is warranted in such cases. Of four randomized controlled trials of long-term antibiotic courses in patients with ongoing symptoms, two found no benefit, and two found inconsistent benefits and significant side effects and risks from further antibiotic treatment. Most expert groups including the Infectious Diseases Society of America and the American Academy of Neurology have found that existing scientific evidence does not support a role for Borrelia nor ongoing antibiotic treatment in such cases.
Chicken Soup for the Breast Cancer Survivors Soul will show you the beautiful side of the human spirit and spark the optimism sometimes lost in the mist of an illness. It is for everyone with breast cancer and everyone who loves someone touched by the disease.
